Buying a Waterpod with us

So you’re considering a luxury floating apartment? Congratulations on starting your journey!

From my own personal experience living afloat, there is nothing else like it - from waking up each morning to the sun rising over the water, to dinner parties on the front deck at sunset, or just sitting and watching the world (and ducks!) go by - there is truly no better way to bring peace and happiness into your life.

Here’s how we like to work with our clients to get to build the perfect Waterpod(s) to meet your needs…

Step 1: Let’s get to know you

From the very beginning, we want to learn as much as possible about you and your site where your future Waterpod will live.

  • Will you live in your Waterpod full-time, use it as a second home, or a source of rental income perhaps?
Depending how you intend to use it, we will work with you to make design and layout choices to be optimised for how the Waterpod will be used. For example, if the Waterpod is for short-term rental purposes (as a source of income) we recommend reducing internal storage spaces.

  • Do you have a site already? Is it a private mooring or a marina?
Depending on the site, there may be size (length, width) restrictions or mains services limitations that we should take into consideration. We also like to take views and privacy into consideration - so we can ensure that windows will be orientated towards any notable views - or have walls strategically located to provide privacy.

  • Do you have any budget or financial requirements?
Our pricing and options are fixed and transparent, so we can work with you to help prioritise your choices to fit your needs and budget.

  • What else is on your wish-list?
Looking to be fully off-grid? Need to have some important kitchen appliances? Whatever it is that would make your Waterpod perfect, we like to know, so we can try to fit it in.

Step 2: Choose a base model

Once we have an understanding of your planned uses, site and size/cost requirements, we can work together to select a base-model. This acts as the starting point for your Waterpod design.

Our base-models range in size between 9-15M in length and 3.6m-4.8M in width, with internal spaces between 17 and 43sqm and range in price from £85,000 to £170,000. The exact size, layout, choices and specification can be selected later.

Step 3: Customise!

We offer a wide range of style, layout and feature customisation options - ranging from external cladding colour and style choices, internal floor and wall finishes, kitchen styles and layouts, lighting choices and more - you can easily customise your internal floorplan - or even the entire Waterpod size and design. Need an additional bathroom or an additional bedroom? How about a roof deck with roof-top cooking area? No problem.

We will share a catalogue of our available options and provide advice and recommendations on your choices. We would also like to hear from you if you have any customisations of your own (e.g. bathroom or kitchen fixtures, or colour choices, etc) that you would like to include, which may not be part of our standard options.

During the customisation stage, we will work with you to choose service connection options too - which includes fresh water, electrical and foul (sewerage) connections and processing. In many cases, we can make your Waterpod partially or fully off-grid, with its own wind/solar power generation, fresh water filtering, rain-water harvesting and onboard sewerage treatment plant. We can add air-source heat pump (highly recommended), underfloor heating, a wood burning stove and more - to ensure your Waterpod is warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

As we work through your choices together, we keep a running total of the cost, to ensure that this remains within your budget. We will also carefully calculate and balance weight, to ensure your Waterpod meets and exceeds safety standards for freeboard and remains balanced and level.

Step 4: Place your order, watch the build

Once you are happy with all of your choices and the total budget, you are ready to place your order. We will send a contract for you to sign, and you will send your deposit. Typically it takes 3-5 months to build and complete your Waterpod. You can come and check-in and inspect the build at different stages.

Step 5: Delivery and commissioning

Once your Waterpod is completed, you are invited to come and inspect it (either in-person, or virtually at your choice) to make sure everything is perfect. We then arrange delivery date with you, via a low-loader specialist boat transport haulier to your destination. We will take care of the transportation to your site - or you can arrange this yourself if you prefer.

Once in situ, we will moor-up your Waterpod with our provided mooring lines and fenders pack, connect the services (water, power, sewerage, as applicable), test systems (heating, lighting, water, etc) and provide a walk-through and hand-over, including an owners manual.

Your Waterpod is all yours - and just requires basic annual maintenance (routine cleaning, changing of water filters, etc) and does not need to be removed from the water each year for dry docking, antifouling, etc as it is designed to remain in the water continuously, although we recommend removal for hull inspection every 5-10 years. Waterpod’s have a design life of 50+ years and with regular care and maintenance should last over 100 years.

Step 6: We are here if you need us!

Your Waterpod is complete and yours to enjoy. If you need any help or support, or in the unlikely event of a warranty issue, such as in the case of a faulty component or defect, you can contact us any time. We are happy to help and provide tips to keep your Waterpod in immaculate condition. We can also help to find a new owner and home for your Waterpod if you ever decide to sell it.
